October 2016 Book Choice

Greetings from the Cotswolds.

I am pleased to announce that the book for October-November 2016 will be North and South, by Elizabeth Gaskell.  Whilst I slept, the book poll closed, this book had 7 votes.

This has worked out quite well time wise.  If we say we read from now and we all post or comment on someones blog (for people who dont have their own blog), on the 20/21 November. This will then make the next book finish before Christmas.

******Hooray!******

I am off to Google, 3 more books.  I will publish my findings Sunday.  You will all then have plenty of time to reserve the books from the library, download them, buy them or borrow them (for when we are ready to read them).

And obviously I will also have to find the TV series of North and South.  You know, for research purposes.  It has absolutely nothing to do with

Be sure to come back Sunday, I will publish the reading list for the next few books.  I will try and make it so they are free downloads if possible for Kindles.

Have a great weekend.

Oh blow! I was afraid this would happen. It's the only one of the three I can't put my hands on, despite a good search. But fear not. I refuse to fall at the first fence. There's a second-hand paperback shop where they considerately put their books in writer-alphabetical order, so if they do have any Gaskells it ought to include this one. I'll wander on down. It'll be worth taking a look as I certainly don't fancy forking out what could be £7 - £8 (or more?) in buying something I've already read. Will keep you posted.

Righteo! I am doing my best to fight my inner contrary Mary! As I already have the book (thank you, Hospice Shop) I just need to knuckle down and read it. I didn't know there had been a television series. I think I shall use that as my carrot. Read the book and then I can reward myself with watching the series. Wish me luck!

Hey Elaine, I am going to make it a goal, read x amount of pages, I can have 4 ginger biscuits. When finished I can watch the whole series in a complete TV binge! love it!!! It also doesnt hurt that Richard Armitage is very easy eye ;) Get reading!!!

I also downloaded it for free on my tablet Sol. Can't say I like the print font but that's probably my eyesight. We once stood outside Elizabeth Gaskell's house in Knutsford in Cheshire.

Hi Dave, excellent, is your Wife going to join in? That would be cool. You can make the font bigger on your tablet. How cool is that! Being outside her house!!!

Don't know about my wife joining in Sol. She prefers saga writer's like: Ruth Hamilton, Lynne Andrews, Margaret Dickinson (every book)and Carol Birch. I often say to her when she's reading them: "Wasn't it great when there was 2 world wars and we had no money?"

The book club looks like fun!

You know Dave, people had less, but they were extremely grateful for what they had. Now people try to buy happiness. I am guilty of that myself.

You're right Sol.
