Food Diary

bottom left Thai red curry, top, Thai green curry, bottom left massaman curry.

After being ill in the early part of 2014, I struggled quite hard to eat well.  A friend of mine gave me lots of pointers and one of the main things was that I just dont sleep enough.  I have mentioned this in previous posts.

I sleep about 1 hour more a night now.  Which is great.  Other than before Christmas when I had a migraine and slept a marathon of 14 hours, like the dead I was apparently.

What changes have I made, well I take 3 supplements now.  Folic acid, vitamin C and vitamin D.  That was the beginning.  I also stopped buying bread from the supermarket and I now bake 3 small loaves a week at the weekend and freeze 2, for use through the week.  This has made a huge difference to pains in my stomach and feeling sluggish.  The Doctor said about this to me.  As people arent generally allergic to gluten in bread.  He said only about 3% of the population have problems with wheat and gluten.  It turns out it is the amount of yeast in the bread.  I was told and then read somewhere on the internet (so it must be true ha ha), that there is 40% more yeast in supermarket bread.  My clothes fit better, no strange little pot belly that appears from no where, strange gurgling noises or pain.  Tick that one is sorted.

I have also started to eat jelly.  Hear me out here.  I havent got some weird diet going on where I eat nursery food.  Gelatin has a lot of amino acids that I just dont seem to be getting into my diet.  This wont help vegetarians as you need the animal gelatin for it to work, but for better sleep and strangely my nails and hair are so much better.  My nails actually peeled, gross.  yuk.  I was really embarrassed about it.

Less processed foods.  The packet and jarred product I use is packet peppercorn sauce that people use for steak, but I actually use it on mushrooms and pataks curry sauce jars.  I cant make indian curry it always comes out gritty.  I have also taken to cooking lots of Thai food.  As you can see in the picture above.  I make these from scratch in the mixer and then pound the heck out of it all.

There are more changes to be made, I am making them in my food diary, which by the way is an excellent way to keep a tight lead on your weight, (if anyone is interested, my Sister swears the best way to stay slim and she is very slim, it to not wear any clothing with stretch in it.  Tailored skirts, trousers and blouses, as soon as they arent fitting right it is time to cut back and move more....).  And introducing new foods monitoring them for 3 months and then seeing if they make any difference.

So that is my update.  If you would like the recipes for the curries above I can scan them in and email of pop them on here.

Are you making any changes to your diet this year?

We Are...

I had a comments conversation over at {Dave's Blog} one day, about the music I listen to.  I really like Kate Rusby, you will know her from singing the theme tune to Jam and Jeruselem.

I've been lucky enough to see her live.  She is very pretty and has gorgeous hair.

I also like this one.

I can be found many times a week dancing like a demented wannabe {Lord of the Dance} person.  Whirling around with my Dyson Stick.  Pretending I know how to dance, and weird moves learnt doing country dancing at primary school where I refused to hold the hands of the boy they kept partnering me with.  He was pretty disgusting.  He now runs a supermarket.  Strange old world.

What type of music do you like?

Where does it all come from...?

After a quick outing yesterday we tackled our big cupboard in the office.

Where does all the paperwork come from...?  Honest we could have heated the house burning it all.  We dont even get bank statements any more.  Stuff all over.  I cant stand it.  Hagrid's house would make me crazy.

2 carrier bags full for the charity shop, none of it should have been living in there.  Remote control helicopter?  What?

I have {a little crazy eye} going on at the moment as I look at everything and ask myself.

Do I want you?  Do I need you?

Then I chuck it out anyways.  lol

Dont forget {yesterdays post}.  Will you join in?

Group Study #1

To plot my course and see where my life is heading I have decided that on Fridays I will post about the same things.

The price of petrol, eggs, milk and bread.

Along with my food bill for the week, (I dont tend to do a weekly shop. I tend to shop once every 3 weeks and then top up with milk and eggs when needed).  I will then be able to check and give an average of the purchases.

Through the summer I may also add in about the food harvested from my garden.

My first full post will be next Friday, I would be delighted if anyone would like to join in.  It could be quite fun to see not only regional differences but even International differences in prices.  Some super organised people may also be able to do the menu plan for their next week.

If you would like to participate, I will be knocking up a template that I will use each week.

What do you think?  What other things could we include?

Hows it going?

How did your New Years Eve go?

It would seem I have started a tradition of being slightly unwell, coughing like crazy.  Sounds like a mixture of a really bad smokers cough and a dog barking...  More vitamins needed.

Did you go anywhere?  Did you party in your living room with the kids asleep on the sofa, shaking them awake to watch the fire works?

We went and had my favourite...  Curry!  Ah wonderful curry.  So tasty, so garlicky, so hot.

SO YUM!

Then back home, tried to sit up on the couch.  Then went to bed at 2100.  Promptly fell asleep and then was woken up by people whose clock was set at the wrong time.  Got up, bleary eyed and watched the fire works exploding over the top of the church with its bells ringing.  They lasted for 15 minutes.  And were pretty spectacular.  I should of grabbed my camera, but I didnt think about it.

Quick drink and then back to my slightly warm bed.

Any new years resolutions?  Nah, not for me, (other than catch the Phantom dog walker who leaves poop on my drive and all along the pavement in front of my house and the ex-Teacher.  Who when she mentions it doesnt say poop.  Says on 'defecate'.  Which obviously makes me smile and try not to laugh.  Ever the teacher with proper language).

Seen lots of people jogging by the house.  They arent the normal joggers, the 'all year' ones, these are new year resolution ones.  Its blowing a gale out there, good luck to them on the hill!  You can go down, but they have to run right back up...

The tree and decorations are down, it makes me happy that the house feels tidier to me.  Gave it a quick once over with the vacuum before putting it in the box.

Nice and neat.    Good start to the new year I would say...
