Stripping the walls

Layers and layers of it.  le sigh.  Why do people just paper over the top?  arrrugh

It's fascinating to see what people had before though, tracing back the history. How tastes change!

Hey Jessica, the one that looks like it has white paint splatters on, is like a bamboo print. Is that 60's? This house could be the last house we ever do up! lol I laugh but it is horrendous. I said the other day out loud to no one in particular, my next house will be new build. I cant take the tobacco stink anymore when I steam the wall to get the paper off. I have only managed 2 square metres so far as my side hurts still. dang ribs.

Hope you are well and refreshed from your holiday. It looked spectacular!

My parents used to do that. I think it was to keep the heat in...

Hey Toffeeapple, it makes for mildew in badly ventilated homes. 7 layers in this one room. Its driving me batty! it wasnt for that purpose in this house, since this house was built they could have put in polystyrene and then papered over it, if it was for heat loss.

Why? Well I have yet to be in a relationship either romantic or otherwise with a Woman who didn't bring up a wall color change every 6 months or so. Back then it was easier than painting, less chance for unfix-able messes and gave much greater color combinations. I remember my dad groaned every time mom started talking about a new look in one room or another :)

Hey PP, this house is being done once and if we are still here in 10 years time we will have it refreshed. I say this completely tongue in cheek. We never stay any where more than 3 years, this is our 14th house. I doubt it is the last. You got away lightly if you only had to change the wall colour. When we get fed up, we move house, town and even county. Ive already found our next house.... Just have to wait for it to come down in price. it will be on the market for long time as it is over priced, a lot of work and not a lot of people would want the hassle. lets hope we have a year as we have to raise the roof and finish this one first. and then the real work will happen. the next one is the shot at more self sufficiency, I have a feeling it will be hard work and probably will finish off us moving again.

Wallpaper is rather out of fashion these days, but I can remember the delight of stripping back layers of paper to discover beautiful old patterns. I always used to keep bits, but I've no idea where they are now.

Hey Cro, huge print flowers seem to be in vogue right now. It just isnt me, I like more plain and with pictures that I like.
