We need another six books

Chantilly
Hello!  Hope you are having a good weekend.  If you are joining in with the read along, we now need nominations for the next 6 books.  This gives everyone, the time to find the books in the most cost effective way.

I would like to try and keep it to the classics as much as possible, but I am open to ideas and thoughts.  Do you have a book that I just have to read?  Tell me about it!

And go....

p.s. the handmaid's tale TV series in now on.  I think it is quite good!

I saw the first few minutes of the first episode of 'Handmaid', Sol, but soon gave up when it was clear that it was yet another of those mumble-mumble dramas where I just could not make out what on earth (most of) the characters were saying - even with the volume turned RIGHT UP! It only occurred to me later that I could have turned on the subtitles but I still feel annoyed when doing that just shouldn't be necessary. I'm aware that it's getting very good reviews but maybe I've just been left behind from this modern fashion of not caring whether or not one can hear the dialogue - as it doesn't seem to matter? Well, I'm afraid it does to me.

Oh I am sorry Ray that you couldnt hear it. I cant remember if we turned it up or not. I am getting fed up with all of the really dark programmes, where I cant seem to make out what is even happening on the screen it is quite black.

I tried a sample from Episode 2 last night - and I'm blowed if it wasn't just the same old mumbledom as before. I turned on the subtitles and thought "How could anyone hear that THAT was what was being said!" I feel like challenging anyone who watches it to repeat the lines just uttered - and I'm pretty confident that, for the most part, they couldn't. Maybe it's a generational thing - you know, communication nowadays doesn't have to be decipherable. If that's what it's come to these days I must as well give up!

Btw: How do they manage to get no less than TEN X ONE HOUR episodes out of a work a few hundred pages long, a novel a mere fraction of the scale even of 'Gone with the Wind'? I can only surmise that they are inventing scenes, episodes and perhaps entire characters.

Hi Ray, I dont know how they get the 10 episodes. and I hate to point it out, but Moira is in the Red Centre when Offred arrives? WRONG, and then they take that ladies eye out? Where is that in the book? WRONG. I havent seen the next episode yet as we watched the new version of the Man from Uncle. That was kind of boring.

I can suggest plenty of books, but I hesitate to do so because I don't participate.

Love,
Janie
