Thoughts...

Cambodia 2014
Typing out loud if you will.

Lots of thoughts are swirling around, it would seem people are quite afraid for the future at present.  After 2008 and the recession, I lay awake last night thinking about how we are at the whim of other countries laws and financial problems as well as our own.  The world is so interwoven now that when one falls, like dominoes we all topple.  I worry that we will go back to the crazy levels (in my life time), of the 1990's, where every other day one of my school friends had their homes repossessed.  It pushes me harder to the goal of mortgage free as quickly as possible.  I dont know where I am going with this post at all...  It is complete ramblings...

I read {Kev's post} and it would seem he is also thinking what will happen. Lol even if it is zombies.

{Here} is another post from the blog, The Gardeners Cottage. Although we are no where near the Depression, it is a timely reminder of how hard it can be.

I think back to {this post} on Rhonda's blog, Down to Earth, {here} is the article she is referring to.  And it shows how people can make huge savings and pay off their mortgage whilst being more self sufficient.  This is the thoughts of many blogs I read and people who come here to read my blog.

Keep going everyone.  Chin up, heart strong, be kind.

Till another day, Sol xx and 🐕
(have you seen the symbols we can now add?  cool! lol)

Sol - T'is a worry. Add to the the CoL increases which get worse and worse each year...

The best we can all do is try and become as self-sufficient / self-reliant as possible. The more you are, the less likely you will be to starve. Plus, I reason that in being able to provide for yourself (selves), the more money you will have to put toward paying off the bond earlier.

Dani, exactly I am talking to the converted. I love that we have this little community online. That we give ideas, tell of our successes and failures with veggies and recipes. Our building adventures and our growing families. Our little corner of the internet is indeed very special.

Hopefully by next summer we will be mortgage free. Owe no one anything. I am super excited. Onwards and upwards!

Aha along way on the mortgage left for us I'm afraid, although it's our only debt. Trying to dcide if we should go for ten year or five at the moment on our next deal. Ten years is more expensive but the security might be worth it.
As for my blog posts, thanks for the link! I think I've always thought like this though, just now theres a bit of weight behind my arguments!
We do have a great little community going here.

I have absolutely hated being so un-self-sufficient this year, but it has shown me all the things I miss. I don't think we had an option in the circumstances and can't wait to get out of town in the new year

Hi Kev, if we had to have another mortgage for the next house, we would take on a fixed rate 10 year. And hope that the interest rate and inflation would help to secure us a low deal before Brexit. I like to know every month what I am paying and even if it is a little more this month I prefer that. A tracker mortgage would give me the willies. I have also always thought this way. No debt other than the mortgage, you know where you are. I think we are a growing breed of people our-ish age, you are a few years younger than me. We want to look after ourselves and not that we want to be different or to buck the trend of a 9-5 job, but more that we want to be more in control of our own destiny. You make you own luck and I dont want to rely on anyone else, or the Government. I dont want to be a burden. Yes for sure we are for the most part really good eggs on here. Only one or two trolls I have to delete as they are just trouble makers who say things to get a rise out of me... but all in all, I love all the blogs I read and the comments I am left.

Hi Sue, for sure 2016 has been an extremely hard year for you. I am so glad when I read that Col is getting better. All be in maybe slower than you like. Yes, I can imagine how much you miss the growing and also how the seasons change. I cant wait to see your new place. I hope the bungalow sells quickly. Fingers crossed all round and for a fabulous new year!!!!

Yes Sol there is no crystal ball to see into the future. We have all got to keep on believing in our dreams and hopefully they will come reality.

All will be well, Sol. Things will settle down.

It could be worse! You could be living here with us, and having to watch fires burning in the forests all over the place.... ;-)

Hi Dave, its got to happen for us. I dont know how yet. But if you asked me 10 years ago if I thought i would live in a house like this in a village in the Cotwolds, I would have laughed. Its all in the plan, the spreadsheets have given a forecast. We can do it. its all about timing now.

Hello Harry, I worry a lot. I cant help it. I know things will settle. Its all up in the air now and following Brexit it will be bad again. I am just getting ready to weather the storm as best we can. Are people now setting these fires? How scary. Be careful, be safe. I hope you are both well.

Hi Sol, I am one of the very very fortunate ones who managed to retire (from the NHS) just in time to get my pension. (Which I have paid into all my working life! Sick and tired of being told I am a greedy old woman with no thought for the younger generation! I'm supporting them for heaven's sake!) And I know just how lucky we (me and him) are because so many of my friends and ex-colleagues just miss out and will now have to work an extra 6 years. We were able to pay off our mortgage as we retired, and have very few outgoings . We live fairly simply, our entertainment is mostly paling music with friends. cooking for friends, a few folk festivals each year, and himself fishes and gardens and I sew and crochet, mosaic and cook and grown herbs and a few veggies . We struggled as young marrieds - in fact right up to our boys becoming teenagers money was very very tight. It has eased - as I say, we know how fortunate we are.

But the World Situation - gets more and more worrying. The level of ignorance is appalling and this makes way for greed, corruption and global control. I'm not sure what we can do - protest, refuse to bow down, stay informed, communicate, keep our friends and families near (even if they are far away!) and just do our best to live good lives. Lxx

Oh Lynne I hear you. the level of ignorance is amazing. When it first came out about Brexit, you know what my younger colleagues were more worried about? They would have to stand in a different queue at an airport and get a visa. WHAT? And when I asked where do you go on holiday? Mostly Egypt and Turkey... where you have to get a visa anyways. Honest some social media feeds the stupidity. Its obvious how I voted. We will make the best of it. One foot in front of the other. What I will do is like you, tighten the belt further, grow more veggies, give up some treats and like you said, keep informed!

PS you worked for your pension. Anyone who says anything you tell them I said sod off.
