Chatelaine needed

The key to the front door is 21cm long (approx 8 inches) and heavy as hell.

The key to your castle?

Do you have a spare, in case you lose this one?

There was a similar looking key to my people's Georgian Shropshire home. The lock mechanism on the inside was HUGE.

Linda, every Englishman's home is his castle, even if it is in Scotland! lol

Toffeeapple, the spare key is even bigger, when I find it again I will have to take a picture as it is odd! it is about 36 cm long and is double ended 2 different keys. And is super heavy. We believe it was the head steward or valets key and could have been to the butlers pantry which also has a huge door and lock to it. And had floor to ceiling cupboards to house all of the silver and alcohol, tea etc that didnt live in the cellar. the builder joked he could brain someone with it. I can imagine that you could. I would say it was close to 1kg in weight. I will find it, it is odd. I have never seen anything like it.

Hey Cro, you are right the lock is massive! I have never seen ones like these

Hey Sadie, Yes the door is very big and heavy! I cant wait for the man to come and strip it and paint it again! it is going to look lovely.

Ha ha Kev, we use the back door/tradesmans entrance!
