Jaws of death

And that is how you save a house sale from the jaws of death!

6 Days of hell, many phone calls, sitting in solicitors offices, ringing everybodies estate agent on multiple phones.  And Shazam. we are back in business.

Cornwall or bust....  hell it was nearly bust.

I am off to lay down in a dark room.  Talk among yourselves.

Whew . An epic saga in such few words. Crossing the fingers, spitting three times. Just get up and shake it all about, change those vibes and you'll be fine

Linda, I thank you for the spits. I see a niche in the real estate business in the UK, after what we have gone through, in app form.

Hey Tracy, heck I swear I have had hair go white. No joke, this has been the worst ever house sale. I will never ever enter into a chain with 2 sets of Londoners ever again. I have never known such stupidity, this is serious money we are talking here. The middle ones, their house is selling for just over 1.2 million. I swear they are all nutters. More money than sense and then using the cheapest online solicitors that they could find that are actually all Graduates that are interns for the summer and do it as a team. Then the real solicitor that over sees them and actually does all of the transactions goes away on the busiest 2 weeks of the house moving calendar August bank holiday. You could not make this up. Hell it has been hell. Thankfully we are so lucky that the house we are buying they were willing to wait for us. Absolutely horrendous, add this to my parents problems and trying to get after care for my father, ready in place as we dont want him to go into a rest home for further recovery.

Hi ya Thrift Deluxe, I feel like taking a bow! Our solicitor said if we hadnt of had all of the experience we have had with buying and selling this wouldnt have come off. Cornwall here we come!!! be ready for lots of Poldark like pictures!

Hey Jules, I hope it is straight forward as well. Lets hope we dont get into this new house and like this one, the electrics dont work. as the owner has passed away, the electric is off so we couldnt test anything!

Hi Toffeeapple, like a dog with a bone we had to hold on as long as we could. exhausting! We both need a holiday!

hope you are both well!

Stay in bed for a couple of days. Then get up to celebrate.

Love,

Hey Janie, when we are in, I will celebrate on the beach! The house we are moving too next month is in need of work, but not as much as this house. Hope you are well!

It's the real thing floating up from a street near you in Texas right now...

Sol said...

Hey Tom, my gawd if one of those came near me I would die of fright. I held a baby one in Sri Lanka, it tried to get in our canoe, the guide grabbed it and put it in my hand before I knew what it was. and I know that sounds rude

Accrochez a vos reves! - and it seems to have worked. The sighs of relief must have been deafening. Very, VERY pleased for you.

Why Cornwall? not sure I'd want to move there with all the holiday makers going in the summer, still I hope it all goes through

Hey Ray, I was so stressed out over the bank holiday, my hair has started to fall out. We have never had this problem before. People have no regard for money. They dont seem to think that this is a huge amount of money I am signing away. No respect that what one person does impacts everyone in the chain and can cause amazing amounts of stress. I really hope this house is it. It doesnt have land that we wanted but we have the beach right on the door step. The pros and cons came out. How much land did we actually need attached to the house? I have to walk the dogs twice a day, so that is 14 hours a week if not more at the weekends. With the beach just there and the coastal path that goes all around Cornwall what is there more to want. so we have gone location location location, rather than land. Its on a hill, we have checked for flash floods and it looks all ok. My sister worried me over this, but we have checked and we are high enough up that it would hopefully flow right by us. I hope you are also having some luck with your move. Off to write up Tess.

Despite the qualifications it sounds as near-idyllic as one could reasonably hope, Sol. I do hope it turns out to be close to that.
It's no wonder that moving is reckoned to be (I think) the third most stressful event one can undergo - after bereavement and an untidy divorce(?). Which is precisely why I want my next move to be my last. Unfortunately, although I'm on two waiting lists for sheltered, retired person's accommodation in Oxford, I'm low priority, as preference is given to those who, through circs, need or wish to downsize their accommodation requirements - rather than the likes of me who, on paper at least, just want to move there. But never say die! (Oops, unfortunate turn of phrase, that!)

Hi Bill, Cornwall? Why not? For the other 10 month of the year I will be living where others want to holiday. Sure it will be busy, but in the height of the season if I wished I can rent my house out and make a lot of money.

Plus, we will more than likely visit family in Scotland in summerfrom now on as all of the inlaw cousins have children and they go back to school earlier than England, so we are more likely to get good weather and be able to visit with them when they are all home for the new school term.

My family will be only an hour away (rather than the 3.5/4 hours now), the MIL and Step FIL will be 20 mins away and most of my friends from school moved there once they got married.

And finally, why wait till we are 65 to move to where we would want to retire? Go now, we can afford it and will have (hopefully) years to enjoy it all. Whats not to like there?

Hey Ray, it will be fine. For sure I will cry when we arrive, I always do as we always leave a beautiful house behind. We can do it again. It might take a while like this one.

It maybe worth going to the Dr to express your anxiety at where you are living. They can write a letter that you can send to the housing association that will give you a higher standing due to stress on health and well being. Just a thought. it is worth it, if it helps.

You're last para, Sol, is what my sister's been suggesting, but I've always thought "Nah!" However, must admit I've been on medication for high blood pressure for 17 years now, and it's still never come down (hardly any wonder!). Due to see the doc week after next so I may well mention it. Thanks.

Great news Sol. I look forward to reading about your new house.

Hey Ray, it could help and I know how it feels to be trapped where you dont want to be. I was in that situation 4 houses ago. The stress kept me awake and I never wanted to go home due to the neighbour. Beaming luck vibes that you get bumped up!

Hey Kymber, it was touch and go. Stress was very high. I have emailed you on one of the emails I got. Have I been sending them into the ether?

Hi Dave, it is great news. The garden will take me years I am sure it is seriously over grown the lady has been dead 3 years. the grass was higher than my head!
