If I ever get my wish to transform my deck into a true Florida room, I hope to install solar panels. I don't think I have what it takes to live off the grid, but I want to leave a smaller carbon footprint.
Impressive. I'm sort of off grid for my three weeks away. My electricity is solar generated and I carry enough water for about six days. My fridge is gas powered. xx
Hey Janie, I also dont think we would ever be off grid completely. But I think I can also incorporate many of the things they have and like you said, we are ready for solar panels. Our heating system is ready to be hooked up to panels and give us hot water first and then later on if we stay, general electricity. Ohhh a Florida room. I am not sure what one of those is. Off to google it.. Hope you are well.
Lovelygrey, I love you Klaus, I am hoping to get one in the next 3 years myself. And have some UK adventures and then more of France. Hope you are having a lovely time out there.
Dani, it really is inspiring. I wonder if their kids werent home schooled if they would still live like that? My own family, the Nieces and Nephews and my Great Nieces and Nephews are all hooked into the grid and internet constantly. We are already in the Matrix. We just dont know it. Have a great day Dani! Is Rosie on?
Did you find photos of a Florida room? One doesn't have to live in Florida to have a Florida room. If I can turn my deck into a Florida room, I shall improve the floor by using slate, put on a roof (and solar panels), have half walls, and the rest of the walls will be windows with shades. The windows will all have screens so we can open them whenever we like. I know too many people who have windows that can't be opened. Of course, the room will also have a nice door with a doggy entrance and exit. Florida rooms are usually casual and are not heated or air conditioned. We have many cool, pleasant nights from October to May. I would love to sleep in a Florida room on those nights.
Ohhh Janie, I can imagine it from the pictures I have just googled. I have seen it before on peoples verandah/porches where they have moved the bed out there. But they didnt look like the Florida rooms I found. How exciting.

Oh yes, Rosie's been burning merrily all day long 😄
Janie - It's not so difficult to live off the (power) grid - we even have the power to run our business from home.
