Greetings fellow Earthlings

Greetings fellow bloggers.  How are you?  Where have I been?  Well get a hot drink whilst I tell you a yarn.

Life has sure taken some strange turns this year.  See the picture?  Guess where it is, whilst I bring you a little up to date.

This is not a political rant, so please make no comments about it, I dont care to read it.

Whilst minding our own business living what I thought was my dream, Brexit has come as more of a reality.  Posh Boy (the Mr) came home and said that the company he works for, had offered him a permanent job.  They said we had 3 months to decide.  In the interim my mother and father's health have taken a battering and at one point my father was fighting, sepsis following a gall bladder removal.  When you havent got anything nice to say, dont speak, is the saying.  Well I had nothing nice to blog about whilst as a family we converged on my parents to help where we could.  My father only just came through this with his life, a shadow of his former self both in size of his body and his mind.  We have well and truly taken a battering as a family.

Back to the job offer.  The job offer came about as the company he works for is moving from the base in London, to Glasgow and Edinburgh.  Yes, you read that correctly.  Scotland.  The company is obviously hedging their bets on what will happen after Brexit.

Fast forward to a month ago, we have moved to Scotland.  My parents are more stable and have help that goes in.  I am slowly finding where all the shops are and the quickest roads to get about.  {Dave}, I have street lights and I am 7 minutes walk to a vibrant little town.  It could be worse.

The garden is very unloved.  I have no idea what I can grow here, veggies or plants due to the wind from the hills and it being cold.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am waiting for the snow and ice storm to hit.  I best be off and get some more wood in.  I will tell you more about the house another day.

Speak another time.

Hi Sol. Great to see you back. I hope 2019 is much better for you all. I love the houses in Scotland along with the malt whiskeys. Suppose Leeks and Swedes will not mind the weather. I am beginnning to think of just summer vegetable gardening here. Its always wet and windy here. Storm Deidre is here this afternoon.

Hey Dave, I dont know how often I will blog it will be hit and miss. The house is victorian and the walls are extremely thick, they built them to last. The garden I am completely at a loss over. Its is windy as hell here.

Greetings of the most welcome kind on your return, Sol. I was fearing it would, for some unfortunate reason, never come.
Now we see that your life is currently in some degree of flux, to put it mildly. So many questions to ask, which really ought to wait until it has stared to settle.
I do hope you can manage to post again to update us as soon as you're sure it's 'safe' to do so.
Very pleased indeed to hear that, physically at least, you're okay.
Welcome once again.

It's so good to have you back, Sol, although I do wish the last few months had been kinder to you.
Wow! You've had a lot to deal with, it's hardly surprising you've been absent from here. I really hope you're both settled in your new home and I'm looking forward to reading more about it. I hope the climate isn't too much of a shock for you. X

Hi Jules, I hope you are well. I am cold, I have to learn to live with it. One lady told me to take up drinking alcohol, it keeps the chill out? Or you are just too drunk to recognise you are cold? ha ha!!! Is it snowing there?

Phew, talk about a few life changes! And you've gone from far south to far north. Such a difference in climate and customs. No wonder you're still finding your way around and have no time....or inclinations for blogs.
I really hope your father gets strong. You have a wonderful family I remember, a family who stick together and looks after each other.
I added a note about the chickpeas. They are called revithia' in Greek and are very popular. We cook dried chickpeas, soaked overnight , but tinned ones would be so much easier. A good hearty soup on those cold days up north!
Good luck to you and your hubby. Hope you enjoy the change. I've just put wood on our fire too

Hey Linda, it sure is a change. I will have to look the soup up as I really liked it! thanks for finding the name for me.

Sol! So good to see a post from you.

Sad to know that you have not had a good year and hope that things take a turn for the better very soon.

You need to start wearing Scottish Tweed, that will keep you warm along with woollen socks.

Hey Toffeeapple, I have bought some thermal socks and some knee high lined boots, I was tipped off on the boots by a lady at the WI. I ordered them on my phone whilst there talking to her!

Great to see you back, Sol ! Sad to hear the difficult times you've had.
Like you we've just moved home (and country) and I am also trying to find my way around.

Here's to new beginnings <3 ! Hoping for the next year to be a better one for you and your family. xxx...x

Good thinking! I hope you get to love where you live - I would move to the West of Scotland in the blink of an eye because I love it so much. People actually speak to you there!

Hey Patricia, yes it is a bit of a smack in the face as I thought we were done moving and then even though they touch and we talk 'kind of' the same language, it is another country and one I never thought I would live in. Ever. The Mr never wanted to 'move to the Motherland'. And obviously it is colder than Cornwall. Yes it will take a time. But like Toffeeapple, people have been super friendly. lol Even if they are a little taken back at first by how English I sound. (their words not mine. on meeting me at the Scottish WI. 2 both said on seperate occassions on the same night, "we will learn the Queens English from you wont we" and another "oh, I didnt expect you to sound like that! You are English arent you!" so heck knows who I sound like.

Toffeeapple, I was completely ready to stay in Cornwall. The dream the beach at the bottom of the road, never having to remember a coat as it wasnt cold enough and wearing Toms all year round. I kind of had the dream for a year. But I am determined to become part of the community here. First WI, and in the new year I am hoping to get into the local volunteer group that clean up the rubbish from the verges (my absolute pet hate is people throwing things from cars or lorries into the verges and hedges, drives me bonkers). You are going to like a lot of my pictures soon then
