Love It, or Hate It

Restaurant Quimper, Brittany, France

I love marmite.  It was 8Euros a jar in France.  Can you imagine?  I get the same size jar for £3 here in England.

Yes, I am one of those sad people who takes it on holiday with us to our holiday Gite.

Marmite on toasted baguette and butter from Brittany's cows.  Yum.

Got to get my B12 vitamins, good for the blood.  I don't eat enough dairy, meat or eggs.  Apparently this also is why I don't sleep well... and now take folic acid and have found that I sleep much more soundly.

Do you like Marmite?

p.s. I do like vegemite, but I find it grainy compared to marmite and thicker.

Sad too! I have a big jar in the van. Vegemite is devil food as far as I'm concerned though x

Hey lovelygrey, hope you had a good week end. Glad I am not the only one who takes it with me on holiday.

You have to take it with you if you go to Denmark - it is banned there because it contains too many vitamins. Do I like it? I'm not telling you.

What in God's name is Marmite? All I can think of is Marmout which is a little animal like a rabbit that lives in the mountains.

Hey Harry. Have you ever eaten a Twiglet?

Marmite is a thick brown spread that is a yeast extract. like coriander/cilantro, you either love it or hate it. but it is packed choco block with vitamins.

It has high levels of folic acid in it. So I eat it at least once a day to help with sleep and anaemia

I don't think it is popular in the US as you have lots of fortified foods over there. We don't have those so much. I don't think they are allowed..? It would also make life harder for some vegans/vegetarians I am sure, as you would have to check each label and then still add more vitamins/minerals from other sources on top. Flax seeds are a good source of Omega 3 if you don't like fish.

do you have yeast extract spread over there?

I had a lot of Vegemite years ago, buy I've never tried Marmite.

Hey Susie. I would say marmite is not as grainy and thinner than vegemite. it may even be more salty in taste.

Where did you get vegemite over there?

In Australia... Exchange student a long time ago.

Ha Susie, I was hoping you were going to say Costco, so Harry could try it. I think the people who don't like it, spread it too thickly and then make themselves feel sick.

Mmmm, Marmite on hot buttered toast. Is there anything better in this world?

Yay Caroline, someone else who loves marmite! But do you take it on holiday? lol

I eat it every day and always take it abroad with me. The B vitamins help with depression too, so I am always chirpy!

Hey Toffeeapple, I didn't realise it helps with depression. it seems to be a cure all.
