Being rather cynical, I suspect the dim light is intended to hide all the faults in the clothing so you won't find them until you've paid up and got home. Either that or its a rather OTT economising measure.
I saw one for the first time on Saturday in Exeter. I didn't go in but was fascinated by the waves on the screens outside. Stood there gawping like the hick from the sticks I am :)
