Cracked it - NOT!

I would really like a pet.

Yesterday I had convinced myself the best pet would be a hamster.  Small, easy to keep clean, no walking in the rain, easy to transport in its tank.

About 20 minutes later I had decided that I couldn't have a hamster because they don't live very long and I would be really upset that my little buddy would die.

I then felt very sad mourning a pet I never even owned.

I need to get a shift on and find a job.

If you go for a Guinea Pig, you can always eat it if you get tired of it.

I can identify precisely with how you feel. Though I'm ever luxuriating in the comforting presence of my pussy cats, never far from my thoughts is the dreadful loss I'm going to experience when they are no more, for whatever reason. Crazy, isn't it? - or maybe not so.

Don't get a ferret. They are the best friends ever, but they have short lives and they tend to cancer or adrenal disease.

I still miss Ragnar/ Jiggles and I guess I always will.

Tom! LOL I have enough problems eating any animal that is slightly cute.

Ray, it is madness. When I was on the ferry from France to Plymouth I really lost my rag and it was all I could do from getting out of the car and belting the bastard man in the car next door. Their poor dog, a beautiful chocolate lab, had been in the car for 8 hours. Then when the family came down to the cars. The family all got in, pushed the dog in the boot, then processed to fill the boot with so many bags and to crown it all of a BLOODY PUSHCHAIR. The animal could not move.

All the other dog owners were walking up and down with the dogs and giving them water etc. Not this family. The dog couldn't even get up to turn around.

We then followed them out of the ferry port all the way up to Exeter and on to the M5 and they kept going when we turned off for Gloucester. Makes my blood boil. I am angry even typing that.

Oh Harry, this is why I cant have a pet. My Families dogs both had to be put to sleep with in 6 months of each other. The upset it caused 8 years ago still leaves me unable to even think about a hamster. I just couldn't bear it again

Get yourself a good bitch, like a Border Collie or a Jack Russell terrier, Sol. They are loyal, an excuse to go for a walk but not on your own, and you will have a friend for many years.

That's a huge reason I don't have a pet...can't handle dead bunnies in the backyard, never mind a beloved pet.

Don't get a bloody tortoise. That is all I'm saying on the subject!

Hi Dave, I know what it is to have to beautiful faithful canine friends. I just don't think I could cope if they were ill.

Susie, all my friends bar one, say just get any pet. as if it is a paper plate. I take the life of another being seriously. It would break my heart.

Caroline! LOL I said a tortoise, Posh Boy said "ok then, I will get a rock, some googly eyes, and some corks for legs. When you aren't looking I will move it around the garden!"

Beware hamsters.
It was one of those that started us off on our first big renovation project because I had nowhere to put the cage. I kid you not. And worse... many thousands of pounds later, still no hamster. Because I had nowhere to put the cage.
We got a good price for the house though.

Jessica, that sounds like a story that should be told over a drink in the pub! As much as I want a pet we wont ever get one I don't think, unless one of us works from home.

I kept quite a few hamsters as a kid, but on the whole I don't remember being too upset when they died. I just bought another one. I knew very well they didn't live very long and I didn't get too attached to them.

What did upset me though was when I thought one of my hamsters had died, I buried it in the garden, and then someone suggested it wasn't dead, just hibernating.

Oh God Nick! I would of had to dig it up and check it. and then I would have been double upset at having to bury it again. I am off the idea of a pet now.

Chickens make good low effort pets! And you get eggs...

Hey Kev, I wont be having chickens we don't eat enough eggs , plus where we are we have a terrible fox problem. People feed them around here, so there are loads of them.
