Getting quotes...

Part of moving house for us is getting someone to pack our house up and transport it all for us.

The man came with his tablet wandered around, I told him what comes apart and what doesnt.  Then we went to the shelves.  He started counting shelves.  And you can see his head turning to the side to read the titles.  A little nod of the head every so often told me he had read a book on that shelf.

When I look at peoples houses on the internet, I always look to see what books they have on their shelve.  Same as magazines, a picture of a person in front of book shelves, forget they are wearing some new fashion, I am the person who turns the magazine and brings the picture closer so I can squint at the titles of the books (I know the shelves will have been styled, it doesnt matter to me, I will still look).  To see if that person is a 'me' person or not.

With tablets and kindles and other e-readers I wonder if we will be able to tell what people read in the future?

I saw {THIS}.  I liked it.

Have good day.

Is this the intellectual equivalent of looking at what's in someone's supermarket trolley? X

I am the same with bookshelves in magazines ... I often turn the magazine sideways so I can read the spines ("Oh, I've got that!" "Fancy them having that!" and so forth!) and even use a magnifying glass on occasion.

I do exactly the same! I always look, squint to see the titles of books behind the model or on the table.
We just love books and everything between the covers!

Ha ha Jules, I look at peoples shopping and wonder what the heck they are making for dinner!

Hi Margaret, I have to work out if people are 'me' people or not. When you look at peoples houses, when they are for sale, houses with out books give me the willies!

Hey Linda, I love books, the last 2 moves I really slashed the amount of books I have, ones that I had read twice and was never to read them again. now have my instruction books as I call them, DIY books, gardening books, text books for my job and recipe books. Then my 'green' books that are about permaculture and solar power installations. And then my reading books. All are at a level where I couldnt let them go.

I hate to say that I judge people by what they read, but to a small extent I do.

Hey Janet, I love looking at other peoples books, I dont think I judge them, as in, they read rubbish. More I want to know if they enjoy the same things as me. And then if they do, I make a mental note of other titles that they have incase I would like them. Books are very telling.

So have you bought a place and sold yours?

Hey Rachel, our house was under offer the first day. We have offered on a house and the valuation etc on that is this week. Lets see how it goes, it is a probate sale and the children of the owner seem to hate each other. The estate agent and their solicitor are having problems with them so it could fall through and then we will go into rented.

I was told probate sales are always like this because someone involved always thinks the house is worth more than it is! It boils down to the same old thing, greed.

Yep Rachel I think you are right. From what the neighbour said, she hadnt spoken to her kids for years. And has left one of the children more than the others. And someone else is the executor and is trying to sell the house to get it all completed. But the 3 kids have to agree and getting them all to reply is 3 times as long usual. One wont talk to the others, one has fallen out with the executor and the one that is getting more lives abroad, but was clever enough to get the keys to her vintage cars and flog them the second probate was granted they were gone by the weekend. Happy families :(

Yet the house is full of the ladies stuff. We have had it written in the contract that the houe is to be completely clear, not even carpets, we are with holding 4k. if they dont clear it that will pay for someone to clean it out and the skips. THe carpets arent as bad as this house, but I still want them all gone, she smoked and everything smells. It will be like this house where I will have to wash nicotine off of the walls for weeks. yuck

Yes, I am one of those people who is obsessed with books. I always look to see what books are on shelves or which book a person is holding. I have a book I'm reading in almost every room of my house. I have a kindle and it comes in handy, but I prefer real books.

Love,
Janie

Hey Janie, I feel a house is bare without a few books here and there (or book cases full!) I love my kindle it is so easy to take about on the move. Extremely handy
